CA dem congressman Ted Lieu was asked about the House Judiciary Committee hearing with Google's CEO over the content of speech stating clearly he "would love to be able to regulate the content of speech. The First Amendment prevents me from doing so, and that's simply a function of the First Amendment, but I think over the long run, it's better the government does not regulate the content of speech." You can be sure if democrats held a super majority right now LIEu would be all in favor of regulating the content of speech regardless of his belief govt should not get involved.
Take note he never said govt staying out of it as an absolute, he has in fact left the door open. Remember democrats DO NOT LIKE the Constitution, if they could take a match to it today they would! obama spelled it out, that it is a "charter of negative liberties" restricting the govt from doing things to the people. I have posted over 96K tweets, and there have been some doozies from time to time that should've gone viral but were DOA. How do I know this? Because similar tweets from others did go viral! You would think someone who posts 96K tweets, providing content not just blather or trolling, would have a large following, nope. The account was opened in 2009 and to this day has only 2600+ followers, AFTER getting a boost from a celebrity and a friend, that's it. Well, what were they supposed to do, sit there and have Democrats paint the picture they're liars? And since when is it a crime for someone to make a buck online. If you produce quality product you should be able to monetize it and get paid!
They did a great job on an issue many to this day are dismissing. All conservative pages on Facebook, including yours truly, are being silenced. Something needs to be done because this company is far too powerful and influential on American politics and social issues. It's become as influential as television and radio became when they were finally reined in and placed under govt oversight (FCC). Since Zuckerberg is controlling the flow of information someone is going to have to step in, slap him on the wrist to stop this power trip he's on. With respect to gun violence and mass shootings, both have existed the internet. Frankly, mass shootings have been going on since the 18th century!
If YouTube, Facebook, Citibank et al continue on this course what will they ban next? People never think about the slippery slope, today it conservatives tomorrow will it be independents and then people with no party affiliation? When it comes to violence today is guns will knives, tools (because they can be used to make weapons, chemistry 101 (video to make bombs exist) be next? What about self-defense? People have been killed by another with their bare hands, will these tech giants ban self-defense videos and content. Will Citi and whomever follows their lead refuse to allow transactions with self-defense courses?? Don't say it can't happen because 2-3 years ago, hell a year ago the restrictions and outright boycotts we're witnessing today we talked down and trivialized.
These companies are out of control thinking they can dictate public policy. We have an inalienable, inherent right to self-defense and expression. If these companies are going to suppress political dissent, gun related content or business then they must do it for others listed above, otherwise they are hypocrites; not that they care.
The best we can hope from the newest purge against our civil rights is someone or a group gets together to start a new platform to compete directly with these companies that offers a true space for free speech and commerce. That's his opinion and fine, BUT when a school is receiving public (aka tax payer funds) the school shouldn't limit who can or can't speak on campus. The school should also not be siding with a group/ opposition to a speaker as we've clearly seen from UC Berkeley. It was quite convenient how this young professor left out the fact that resistance to speakers and violence only comes from the left. There were no riots against the Clinton's, obama or others on the left speaking, yet the mere mention of a conservative speaker sends these schools into chaos!
Who determines what is or isn't hate speech? To be clear for the umpteenth time, the First Amendment protects the most offensive speech, including what some would consider "hate speech", so libs argument is mute point.
Ann Coulter does not use hateful speech. She is not cursing people out, condemning anyone, nor calling for people to be assaulted or mistreated. Ted Cruz has been spearheading an effort to stop obama from handing control of the internet(ICANN) over to a global body that will more or less be ran by Russia, China and Iran. But once again Senate republican leadership [McConnell & co] have bowed down to emperor obama by leaving Cruz's provision out of the spending bill to keep the govt open until Dec.
Once we lose this control of the internet we will not be able to get it back, free speech as we know it on the net will be a thing of the past [NO I don't care that the internet is like the wild west. It is the last example of true freedom for ALL to experience]. Even Donald Trump is supporting Cruz on this effort but with only a few days left to stop this transfer of power this move by the Senate is a crushing blow.

WASHINGTON — Senate Republican leaders did not include a provision pushed by Sen. Ted Cruz to prevent a planned transfer of internet domain control in the text of a stopgap spending bill unveiled Thursday to keep the government funded until December.
Cruz said in a written statement that he was “profoundly disappointed” in the result of the Senate negotiations, accusing his colleagues of giving in to “White House demands to hand over increased control of the Internet to authoritarian regimes like China, Russia, and Iran.”
“This is one more example why the American people are so fed up with Washington, because they expect all of us — Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike — to protect free speech online,” he said.
Cruz aides would not reveal what the senator might do next. Asked earlier this week if he would be willing to push the issue to the brink and risk another government shutdown, Cruz repeatedly declined to answer.
The Texas Republican has led several GOP lawmakers this month in waging an 11th-hour battle to stop the U.S. government from giving up oversight of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a California-based nonprofit commonly known as ICANN, to private global stakeholders.
